The problem, and what changes

With conventional drilling the rock drill operator stands directly beneath the drill, exposed to falling rock, and holding the mine standard 70–90° angle by hand is difficult, so face shape and advance rates suffer. A remote-controlled air leg and rock drill remove the operator from beneath the drill, and an independent air leg holds the correct angle, taking human error out of drilling discipline.
